Starbucks History

Starbucks has always been a place to find the best Arabic coffee in the world. In 1971, the story began in the first and only store in Seattle, Washington in the historic Pike Place Market. Its founders
English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegel and writer Gordon Bowker. The three, inspired by the coffee businessman Alfred Peet opened his first shop selling coffee beans and machines, located at 2000 Western Avenue. During the first year were Alfred Peet exclusive clients then began to purchase green coffee beans from other vendors. In 1977 the store moved to 1912 Pike Place.

The name derives from the legendary novel by Henri Mobby Dick Melville, evoking the romance of the sea and seafaring tradition. The name was perfect for a store that, like the early coffee traders, imported the finest coffees in the world for the people of Seattle.

In the 80

In 2000
The Starbucks phenomenon continues. Currently, Starbucks has more than 9200 stores in over 36 countries. In addition to our excellent coffees and espresso drinks, our customers enjoy the Tazo ® teas and the now famous Frappuccino ®.

In April 2003, Starbucks bought other companies in the area extending to 6400 local and 2006 negotiated with the firm Diedrich Coffee to acquire premises and shops.



Starbucks chairman, Howard Schultz, has talked about the tension that exists in the company due to its rapid spread and the collective desire to act as a small business.



In February 2007, Starbucks was 7.521 and local all over the world: 6.010 of them in the United States and 1.511 in other countries. The company also has joint ventures and licensing 5.647, 3.391 of them in the United States and 2.256 in other countries. This makes a total (February 2007) of 13.168 around the world.



On April 17, 2007 opened the first store in Romania in Bucharest. Is scheduled to continue through Romania to a total of 150 cafes will be opened in major cities throughout the country.



On May 25, 2007 signed an agreement with the companies KFC, Pizza Hut and Burger King, to open Starbucks stores in Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary.

Starbucks owns 50% of companies currently operating in licensed shops and cafes throughout the world.
