John Paulson |
Paulson attended school in Whitestone Hebrew Center in Whitestone, New York.
He earned his degree in finance from the University of New York University Business and Public Administration (University of New York known as Leonard N. Stern School of Business), where he graduated first in his class. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Paulson began his career at Boston Consulting Group and then left to join the Odyssey Partners, where he worked with Leon Levy. Later, he took a position in the mergers and acquisitions department at Bear Stearns followed by a shareholder in the merger arbitrage firm Gruss Partners LP. In 1994, he founded his own hedge fund Paulson & Co. with $ 2 million and an employee.
In 2008, Paulson co-wrote the Wall Street Journal opinion piece that suggests an alternative to the Treasury Secretary's plan to stabilize markets. Later that same year started a new fund to lend money to investment banks and hedge funds during the mortgage crisis.
